Renewal by Andersen® windows have been designed to require minimal maintenance. However, dust, dirt and stains from spills or splatters are inevitable. Here are some tips for cleaning these windows.
Cleaning Casement Windows
You would have to remove the insect screen of your casement windows before cleaning them. This can be easily done by unlocking the fasteners on both sides and lifting the screens from the opening. See if your windows have removable interior grilles. Remove the grilles by lifting them away from the glass near the frame’s edge.
Fibrex® Material Components & Moving Parts
The Fibrex® material should not be cleaned using newspaper or ink-based paper because it can result in discoloration. Use a soap and water solution, and a soft cloth or brush to clean the frames, sash and grilles. Vacuum the dust on sills and tracks of your windows to keep them operating smoothly.
You can clean the exterior glass by fully opening the window, and reach between the frame and sash. However, larger windows may have to be washed from the outside.
Wipe dust and grime from the glass, and then apply a mild cleaning solution, such as diluted vinegar, soapy water or window cleaner. It’s not advised to use clean glass with HeatLock™ Technology using paper towels.
Don’t apply glass cleaner in direct sunlight to minimize residue. Never use abrasive cleaning products like cerium oxide or toothpaste, and rust removers with hydrofluoric acid on glass with HeatLock Technology. They can cause permanent damage to the glass coating. Once you’ve cleaned the glass, you may place back the grilles and insect screens.
